Join The Drivers Collective PDX and
Support Fair Working Conditions for Lyft and Uber Drivers
The Drivers Collective PDX is an organization for Portland-area TNC (Transportation Network Company) drivers and allies. Our mission is to improve the private for-hire transportation system so that it is safe, fair, and efficient for drivers, riders, and the greater community we serve.
We advocate for fair and equitable compensation (rates), insurance coverage, and drivers’ interests with the TNCs and in local and state policy decisions.
Currently, TNC drivers in Portland are subject to unstable and insufficient economic conditions with very few of the protections afforded to other types of workers.
After 10 months of doing business and growing the TNC market in Portland, Uber cut rates by 26% per mile and 33% per minute in February of 2016, calling it a temporary measure to increase ridership. A few weeks later, Lyft matched Uber’s rate cuts. (See TNC Rate history details at https://TDCpdx.com/tnc-rate-info)
More than a year later, Lyft and Uber's rates remain deeply discounted. Many drivers earn less than minimum wage after expenses (fuel, auto maintenance, repairs, and depreciation). There are no protections against continued rate decreases.
By joining The Drivers Collective PDX, together we will stabilize and improve compensation and working conditions in this emerging industry. The City of Portland and State of Oregon have the ability to regulate the TNCs. We ask that they take action on policies that allow drivers to have their voices heard in the decisions that impact their lives.
Membership is free and open to drivers, riders, and everyone who supports our mission.
